Welcome to our home of public scholarship covering American culture, history, film, and all things American Studies!

Black and White and Read All Over started as a desire we shared to make an accessible platform of our own for all of our public scholarly work and yours. We both are passionate about bringing rigorous scholarly research and writing to the public, and this site features a variety of ways in which we strive to do just that.

Whether you’re a long time reader or here for the first time, please check out Review Roulette for fun weekly film analyses, AmericanStudier for daily doses of scholarly blogging, and our podcast page for The Celestials’ Last Game and other conversations we have with colleagues far and wide. To find lots more public scholarship from those colleagues and more, please have a Sunday scroll through #ScholarSunday each week and visit our Announcements page to see calls for papers, new series, and achievements from our academic community! If you’re looking to publish your own public scholarship but don’t know where to start, we have a resources page for places to pitch your work over at Pitchables and you can always reach out for advice or suggestions via email!

Also, go see Biscuits.

If you like what you see, please subscribe to your favorite pages for instant emails of new posts or to our weekly newsletter!

We’d love to hear from you about your work, thoughts, and achievements, so please reach out via email or follow us on Bluesky!
